Coming from a family of designers and
engineers, and with many years experience of technical systems
development, I know that TRIZ - the Theory of Inventive Problem
Solving - is a very powerful approach for identifying and dealing with
difficult problems. And with a great deal of experience
in using Six
Sigma as a problem solving methodology in both manufacturing and
service industries, I also know that process improvement can sometimes
fail when it meets challenging and inherent contradictions! So when I found out about TRIZ a few
years ago when researching my Design for Six Sigma book, I realized
that it was just what process improvement and design needs. Today I use TRIZ tools
and techniques, on their own and also as part of DMAIC and DFSS
projects. The Pocket TRIZ for Six Sigma book has grown out of my own Six Sigma TRIZ training
material and personal reference notes, and will help you use basic TRIZ
tools to deal with inherent or imposed contradictions wherever
you find them.
